Intended Audience: K-12, University, Teachers E-mail: duedall@fit.edu Frequency and Time of Update should be stated so the viewer has some idea how current the information is. To receive a "Good" rating a site should be modified, or least "looked at", by the webmaster on a weekly basis. Unfortunately there are many sites on the WWW left un-attended. For sites dealing with the weather or oceanographic properties (salinity, temperature, surf condition), updates are frequently 30 minutes or less, with the time given as "Zulu", or UTC time, which is the same as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), zero meridian. For example: 1945 GMT in Melbourne, Florida, is equivalent to 1445 EST (Eastern Standard Time); 1945 GMT in Pensacola is 1345 EST. The advantage of GMT is that it is the same time all over the world. To convert to time zone time (geographical time), one has to know the time zone he or she is referring to or living in. |
