A web site, especially the index page, that has large, animated images or buttons will grab the attention of kindergarten through 3rd grade students.  The site should be navigable by the individual student so that learning can be self-paced.  Each topic should be theme oriented with all concepts directly connected to the them.  The site should be constructed in loop form so the student can return from any topic to the theme at any time.  The loop can be either conceptual,  graphic or both.  An example loop in the water cycle might be graphic of sky, land and water, with arrows connecting all three environments as loop, broken by concepts with water as the major theme.

A site with these attributes would receive a "Good" rating for the Appropriate for K-3rd Grade ESS criterion.
