A web site, especially the index page, that has text and buttons that are simple in format and easily read will enable the student to navigate through the site freely.  Each topic should be sphere oriented with all concepts directly connected to each sphere.  The site should be constructed in loop form so the student can return from any topic to the sphere at any time.  The loop should be conceptual,  with graphic reinforcement.  Ideally, the site should be interactive, allowing the student to obtain answers to questions that arise throughout the navigation experience.  The can be accomplished by self-test exercises which requires the student to choose a correct answer by pressing a button.

(insert example)

A site with these attributes would receive a "Good" rating for the Appropriate for 4th-6th grade ESS criterion.  Content would be consistent with state or federal standards for grade and subject areas.
